LIL WAYNE - SORRY 4 THE WAIT (MIXTAPE)

Almost a month after Mack Maine announced that Wayne would be dropping a new mixtape, “Sorry 4 The Wait” is finally here. As the title suggests, the 12-track mixtape is Wayne’s personal apology to fans for the delay in releasing his highly anticipated ”Tha Carter IV” album.

You can feel Wayne’s presence on a few of the tracks on the mixtape. The title of the opener, Tunechi’s Back, says it all. This one is packed with ruthless punchlines as Wayne attempts to set the tone for the rest of the mixtape.

Tunechi’s Back

One of the more surprising tracks Wayne jumps on is Kreayshawn’s Gucci Gucci. Wayne holds his own on the hook like no other: “Tunechi tunechi, tote the toolie, f*** around and pop ya/ My homies got that white girl, call it Lady Gaga.”

Gucci Gucci

Some of the other standout tracks on the mixtape include Rollin’, Racks, and Hands Up.

Quite frankly, the first four tracks promise something the rest of the mixtape fails to deliver. I wasn’t really impressed with Wayne’s take on Marvin’s Room. This was the perfect chance for Wayne to show his versatility. I was expecting to hear that Weezy from Brand New, but he never emerged.

My verdict: Apology accepted Wayne, but we can only hope that come August 29 “Tha Carter IV” will make up for all that’s lacking on “Sorry 4 The Wait”.

P.S. - Who cleared Lil B’s verse on Grove St. Party? That was undeniably the worst 16 bars of 2011 yet. A Lil B feature, but no Drake feature? C’mon son.

Listen to the entire mixtape below.

THE TIE CLIP BY GOOD WOOD & LAVISH LIVEZ

In an earlier post I shared my general distaste with the overuse of wooden accessories, but I’m having a serious rethink after seeing this Tie Clip.

All wood aside, the Tie Clip by Good Wood and Paul of Lavish Livez is one of the most brilliant accessories made, particularly when compared to the traditional tie clip.

Quite frankly this Tie Clip puts its traditional rival to shame with its near perfect combination of scissor, holster and gold-colored chain. Plus, the decision to use blood red here was well thought-out since it matches with almost any tie color or pattern.

The Tie Clip takes two weeks to ship, but that’s definitely a worthy wait. Enough said, cop it here.

BOMBÉ & MR. CARIBBEAN - JAMES DRAKE

James Drake Mixtape - Bombé & Mr. Caribbean by Bombé

This has to be one of my greatest music finds of 2011 so far.

You might not fully appreciate this mixtape if you’re not a fan of both James Blake and Drake. So if you’re not, I suggest you proceed with caution and an open mind, otherwise this mixtape might sound like an overly boisterous mash-up.

Bombé and Mr. Caribbean just might be on to something here. In between the eerie James Blake melodies and echoes of Drake adlibs, there’s an undeniable hint of genius.

Mr. Carribean himself describes this mixtape as “a soundtrack for sipping Robitussun & Alize in an abandoned Cathedral, covered in a velvet blanket with a sexy stranger on a dark night.

Although ‘Measure It All’ (2:33) is one of my favorite songs on this mixtape, the real treat lies at the 14:49 mark where you can listen to the beauty that’s ‘Ransom Money Youth’.

五〇 グリッド | BY CHANDLER EASLEY

Chandler Easley, one half of the creative company known as Cherry Collaborative, recently announced the release of his photobook, 五〇 グリッド .

五〇 グリッド, directly translated as 50 Grids, is a compilation of Chandler’s polaroid grids; test shoots with various models, which have been featured on the Cherry Co. blog every Sunday for the past 7 months and counting.

For those unfamiliar with Cherry Co., they’re an inexplicably creative brand you can’t help but love. As a budding designer and photographer, Cherry Co. is undoubtedly one of my biggest inspirations. That being said, I’ll let their work speak for itself.

Back to the topic at hand. There will only be 50 limited edition copies (individually numbered and signed) of 五〇 グリッド. Come September 28, I plan on getting a copy for myself. You should too.

SPINNAKER BY RONNIE FIEG FOR SEBAGO

This two-tone boat shoe is the latest product of Sebago’s collaboration with shoe designer Ronnie Fieg for their Spring/Summer 2011 CollectionThe Spinnaker features two grey leathers on the upper, accented with a red outer sole and matching red leather laces.

I haven’t seen this much contrast and highlight in a boat shoe in a while, which probably explains why I’ve been feasting my eyes on this pair for the past week. Unsurprisingly, the Spinnaker is a limited line so I suggest you cop a pair now or whine later.

Watch the trailer for the Sebago Nexus Project, which brought together some of the most influential bloggers to design a series of Sebago boat shoes.

Just as we’re all recovering from the paralyzed state of mind that House of Balloons left us in, The Weeknd releases yet another solid effort.

‘Rolling Stone’ is off The Weeknd’s upcoming mixtape ‘Thursday’, and it certainly picks up where House of ‘Balloons’ left off. The steady guitar strumming fused with high pitched melodies and reassuring lyrics will make you fall in love with this song.

Sidebar: If you’re not familiar with The Weeknd I suggest you read this article, listen to ‘House of Balloons’, and join the club.

So far, it seems like The Weeknd is going to make good on his promise to put out three mixtapes before the year runs out. But, if you’re like me and you can’t wait until ‘Thursday’ drops, let these previously unreleased tracks tide you over. Don’t worry, you can thank me later. Take Care.

P.S. - See what I did there?

M.O.M.B. & SCREWED, VOLUME1

My love for all things chopped and screwed started about 4 years ago when I heard a chopped-up version of Wine-O’s Pop My Trunk. There was just something about the slowed down tempos and skipping beats that really intrigued me.

I don’t pay as much attention to this sub-genre as I should, but lately I’ve been listening to a lot of chopped and screwed music so I thought it would only be right if I made a compilation of some of my recent favorites.

Lest I forget, R.I.P. to DJ Screw.

After several delays, the folks over at Young Money finally pegged today as the official release date for Lil Wayne’s highly anticipated 6 Foot 7 Foot music video.

The Hype Williams-directed treatment is inspired by last year’s blockbuster, Inception, and the video actually starts off with the same scene as the movie.

Williams does a stellar job of precisely matching the visuals with the song’s lyrics. My favorite scene has to be either that of Wayne trying to catch a flying brain (PAUSE) or him whispering to himself (DOUBLE PAUSE).

P.S. – Watch out for the 2-second lasagna cameo.

I’m neither a fan of Kobe  Bryant nor a particular fan of Nike (as part of my personal pledge to non-conformism), but I’m certainly a fan of creativity… and Kanye West, obviously.

Directed by Robert Rodriguez, Black Mamba is a film and advertising campaign for Nike and Bryant’s new sneaker, the Zoom Kobe VI. In addition to Mr. West, the short-film features Danny Trejo and Bruce Willis.

Black Mamba is a short-film in the true sense of the word. Unlike other “short films” that end up being longer than pilot episodes of boring TV shows, this one is sure to captivate you for a full 5 minutes and 48 seconds.

M.O.M.B. PICK: SHWOOD CANBY SUNGLASSES

With the over saturation of wooden accessories, from wooden Jesus pieces to wooden ”POW” necklaces, and even the more recent wood G-shocks, I tend to stay away from all things wood.

But, I’ll make an exception for any line of Shwood sunglasses. Partly because of the design, but more because of the craftsmanship. Shwood promises an entirely handcrafted eyewear piece and the wood manipulation is kept to a minimum.

The Canby is Shwood’s flagship model, and is available in three colors; Cherry, Zebrawood, and East Indian Rosewood.

Visit the Shwood Shop here.
